Birds of Semuliki national park: One of Uganda’s finest birdwatching sites is Semuliki National Park. The 220 square kilometer plot of land is located in the western Ugandan region of Bundibugyo and offers a variety of attractions, including birds. Twenty-three of the more than 435 bird species found in Semuliki National Park are indigenous to the Albertine region. The Park is one of the top birding locations in western Uganda due to the abundance of bird species.
Semuliki National Park was elevated to a national park in 1993 after initially being gazetted as a forest reserve in 1932. The government organization in charge of overseeing and managing the Park, the Uganda Wildlife Authority, has been instrumental in preserving the park’s various attractions.
In Semuliki National Park, more than 435 bird species can be found in the lowland tropical forest, savannah vegetation, and riverine swamp vegetation. Numerous bird species, including indigenous species of the Albertine Rift and woodland species, can be found in Semuliki National Park. When the weather permits, birdwatchers can also engage in birding at Semuliki National Park during the dry season. The park receives plenty of sunshine and minimal rainfall from June to September. The greenery is brief, the trails are easy to navigate, and you can see the birds well.
