6-Days Adventure Crossing of the Mara River July–September: There are only two locations in the world where the Great Migration occurs: the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania and the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. It is the most spectacular wildlife display on Earth. In order to obtain new green grass that comes with periodic rains, millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate northward each year from the Ndutu area in the southern Serengeti, negotiating treacherous river crossings and vast stretches of grassy plains.

The park is home to the Big Five (though rhinos are seldom sighted there), and it is especially well-known for its predators, which include lion, cheetah, leopard, and hyena. The Serengeti is also the site of the amazing Great Migration, in which millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate across the park’s open plains in search of new grass from seasonal rains. This migration is known as “Kogatende,” and it moves northward from the Serengeti into Kenya’s neighboring Masai Mara National Reserve before heading back south to the Serengeti.

The steep rocky cliffs that rise up to 600 meters above the ground enclose the crater on all sides. A trip to Ngorongoro would be worthwhile in and of itself because of the breathtaking vista from the densely wooded rim.
However, in addition to being one of Africa’s most enticing safari locations, this magnificent crater is home to healthy populations of all five of the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino, and buffalo) as well as a variety of other famous large mammals in a verdant and picturesque setting that is often compared to the figurative “Garden of Eden.” Climb the crater to Arusha after the crater tour.
