Mountain Rwenzori is well-known for its amazing flora and diverse plant zones. The vegetation zones include the mountain forest zone (1500 – 2500 m), the bamboo zone (2500 – 3000 m), the heather and rapenea zone (3000 – 4000 m), and the Alpine Zone (4000 – 4.500 m), which has eternal flowers. The lower summits are covered with moorland, bamboo, and lush, damp montane forests. Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kasese.

Day 2: Mountain Rwenzori Hiking and climbing to Samalira Camp.

As you leave the ranger station, you’ll follow a route through thick grassland and gigantic ferns until arriving to a lovely rainforest. Many bird species, as well as chimps and Colobus monkeys, may be heard and observed in this diverse habitat.
Upon entering the forest, the path climbs gradually over the first several kilometers, crossing various small streams and rivers. As you approach the top of the slope and escape the bamboo zone, you’ll be met with breathtaking views of the valleys and hills below. On a clear day, the vista spans all the way to Lake George and Queen Elizabeth National Park.
As you continue hiking, the bamboo forest will give place to forests of enormous tree heather and lobelias unique to the Rwenzori Mountain. After 6.9 kilometers, as you reach the ridge’s summit, you will arrive at Kalalama Camp (3,153 meters), where you will spend the night. Kalalama Camp provides great views.
From here, you’ll traverse through mossy ridges and heather woods before encountering flat lowlands highlighted by various lobelia plants on Mountain Rwenzori hiking adventures. From here, you ascend a little distance to Kyravilla before descending a gorgeous moss-covered hill back to Samalira Camp, which is situated in a small dip in the terrain but offers spectacular views.
