Game drives in Lake Mburo national park, Lake Mburo national park is the smallest savannah national park in Uganda. Covering 260 square kilometers. The national park was gazetted in 1983 in order to protect the different wildlife and vegetation in the area at that time. The locals were evicted out of the area to settle in the near by areas. Because they could kill the animals for meat and others because they ate their cattle.

Over 68 mammals are said to be living in Lake Mburo national park. And this has made it a perfect destination for game drives. The national park is strategically located on a high way to western and southwestern parts of Uganda. Lake Mburo national park is found in Kiruhura district covering a total area of 260 sq.km

Day game drives

Morning and afternoon game drives are the day game drives in Lake Mburo national park. Morning game drives start early in the morning at 6am. Tourists are expected to see some of the nocturnal animals before going back to their hide out places. The evening game drives happen after lunch hours at about 2pm. All sessions last for 2 to 3 hours and by the end of the activity tourists would have seen several wild animals that live in the park.

During the day game drives, tourists can hire a ranger guide if they wish to however its not compulsory. The safari drive does take you to different areas of the park. Where you start to see different wild animals. Some of the animals you will see during day game drive activities in lake mburo national park. Include lions, leopards, spotted hyenas,  cape buffaloes, elands, sitatungas, side stripped jackals, warthogs, zebras, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles to mention but a few.

The night game drives

The night game drives  are conducted in the evening hours after the sunset. The activity starts with a briefing and armed ranger guide joins you for protecting while in the jungle in the dark hours. The safari guide takes you to areas where nocturnal animals are normal at during night hours. The activity lasts for 2 to3 hours and tourists would have seen some of the nocturnal animals with in the park. During the nigh hours in Lake Mburo national park, tourists do get an opportunity of seeing animals such as leopards, lions, spotted hyenas, several cats and other park animals resting.

For tourists to enjoy  they need to visit during the best time. The best period to visit Lake Mburo national park for all activities is June to September and December to February. This is when the park is receiving little or no rainfall and the game tracks are dry and passable, the vegetation is short with unclear views of wildlife and roads leading to the park are in very good condition.

During the rainy season, game drives can still be done in lake mburo national park. The period favors the budget travelers because lodges are discounted. The rainy season has muddy and slippery game tracks which limits access to some of the park areas and the vegetation is some how taller giving unclear views of some of the park animals.

Cost of game drives in Lake Mburo national park?

To carry out game drives in lake mburo national park you need to first pay park entrance fees. Park entrance fees for Lake Mburo national park are $40 for foreign non residents. $30 for foreign residents, and UGX20,000 citizens of East African member states. After you have access the national park, the game drives are free during the day time.

For night game drives, you need to pay a certain fee. And this is because you us armed ranger guides to protect you during the night. They cost $30 for foreign non residents, $20 for foreign residents and UGX20,000 citizens of East African member states.
